Another early morning. We woke up at 7am and had another huge buffet breakfast at the Garden Cafe. The tour we chose was Pompeii walking tour. Pompeii is the city that was buried under ash from a volcano in 79AD from Mt. Vesuvius. The tour guide on this trip was really funny and on the 1/2 hour bus ride to the town of Pompeii he told us about Naples. He said that in Naples they take traffic lights as mere suggestions. He said that it would be really risky to rent a car and try to drive in Naples because they don't really care about traffic laws or right of way. He said that someone cuts him off, he cuts them off, and there's no point in getting angry about it...that's just how it is. Also, he told us about these huge Lemons that grow there and people will get a syringe and inject them with vodka, freeze the lemon all day, and then eat it just like that. Later when we arrived at Pompeii we got to see these lemons and they were about the size of cantaloupes!
It was a really hot day and there was no shade in the city. Most of the buildings used to be three stories high, but the top 2 floors got
blown off in the explosion, so most of the buildings/homes were only one level which offered little shade. We got headphones so our guide could talk to us the whole time. The city was really cool and it was amazing to know how advanced they were in the year 79.
They had flowing water, a sewer system, three story buildings, a theater, etc. When the city was discovered, they wanted to capture things the way they were, so they dug a narrow holes down into the earth and pumped plaster into them, so it could preserve the gaps under the ash. By doing that, they were able to see what the people were doing when they died. It was pretty creepy actually.
On the bus ride back we stopped at a Cameo making factory. I never knew that cameos are actually made from sea shells by hand. There was this little old man that was demonstrating it for us.
We were back on the boat by 12:45, got in our swimming suits, and ate lunch at the buffet. We spent the afternoon at the pool and Jeff was brave enough to go down the water slide. that night we ate at the Grand Pacific dining room. We had scallop appetizers, beef stroganoff, I had strawberry cake, and Jeff had pecan pie. We went to the show that night. It was called "Get Down" and was a 70's themed show. We called it a night around 11 because the next day was a long day in Rome.

Good thing the tour was in the morning before it got REALLY hot, so you could get back to the boat and relax. I agree- that guy is creepy, but it shows you the tragedy of it all. What a unique place to visit!
BTW, Jeff, thanks for all the comments on the Google house pictures. We like it too and no, we won't do a lot to Ethan's room because he wants in Pirate themed :). And yes, in rains, but apparently this year they have had a ton of sun (and I think the people have pretty much quit taking care of things). So we have some work to do IF we get it! Thanks for the commments.
